In this collection, French intellectuals and scholars comment on the relationship between British novelist Joseph Conrad's work and French culture and criticism. The book presents readings of Conrad's major texts by several generations of critics, such as André Gide, André Maurois, and Ramón Fernández, with generation approaching his works from a variety of angles while remaining attentive to the link between the artist and his work.

About the Author

Josiane Paccaud-Huguet is a professor of modern English literature and post-structuralist theory at Univeristé Lumière-Lyon 2 in France. She has edited several volumes of collected essays on modernist writers.
