About the Author

Donald R. Shanor was a foreign correspondent and editor for the Chicago Daily News and United Press International and served as Godfrey Lowell Cabot Professor and director of the international division at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. He is the author of several books, including China Today (with Constance Shanor), Behind the Lines, and Soviet Europe.
